When the pandemic struck, I was in the middle of mixing the four-channel version of Immaterial Los Angeles, Chris McNamara’s 3D video. We had just performed the live version with Megumi Masaki on piano, and the piece had been accepted for screening at the 2020 Sonorities Festival in Belfast. It was a bit eerie to return to the Noiseborder Studio more than a year later with the surround monitors all set up for that project. A silver lining: it turns out that Sonorities are revisiting some of the performances planned for 2020, and the piece will now be presented in April of 2022.
